While CMS has set the timeline for the onset of public reporting for the January 2025 measure updates, it has not yet announced an official date for releasing achievement thresholds and benchmarks for these new measures. The following reflects PRC’s anticipated timeline for public reporting, percentile updates, and Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) application.
This projection is based on patterns from other CMS programs and is subject to change as CMS issues future guidance.
October 2026 — Public Reporting of New HCAHPS Measures
- CMS will begin public reporting for the measures introduced in January 2025 (e.g., Care Coordination, Restfulness).
- Reporting period: January–December 2025 performance.
- PRC’s percentiles spreadsheet (available on Insights) will include these new measures, provided as a courtesy for our client hospitals using CMS data.
Second Half of 2027 — Estimated Release of VBP Thresholds for New Measures
- Estimated release: August 2027 or later.
- CMS is expected to publish Achievement and Benchmark thresholds at this time for the new measures that went into effect in January 2025.
Calendar Year 2028 (FFY 2030) — Estimated Start of VBP for New Measures
- Performance Measurement Year: CY2028 data.
- Baseline Data Period: CY2026 data (consistent with CMS practice of using one year of public reporting before establishing the baseline).
