PRC’s National Health Survey Brief: Mental Health

January 18, 2021

Mental health is a growing concern in communities throughout the US. The 2020 PRC National Health Survey addresses mental health through a variety of measures relating to depression, stress, and help-seeking behaviors. PRC data over the past 15 years shows notable increases in several of these measures, including:

  • Symptoms of chronic depression (having a lifetime history that includes a period of 2+ years feeling sad or depressed on most days)
  • Diagnosis of a depressive disorder
  • Perceptions of a typical day as “extremely” or “very stressful”
  • Having ever sought help from a professional for a mental or emotional problem
