PRC’s National Health Survey Brief: Tobacco Use in the US

August 15, 2022

Although cigarette smoking has declined in the past two decades, the 2020 PRC National Health Survey finds that 17.4% of adults currently smoke cigarettes, whether occasionally (6.9%) or every day (10.5%). Regionally, smoking rates remain higher in Southern and Midwestern states than in the West or Northeast.

Cigarette smoking prevalence is higher among young adults and Americans living at lower incomes (despite a considerable tobacco taxation rate, averaging 44.3% in the US according to taxfoundation.org).
