PRC conducted a study with physician leaders across the country to both understand the challenges that physicians currently face, and to help us better suit our research and solutions to approach these challenges.
Research was conducted via Online Key Informant Study (OKIS) with physician leaders—Chief Medical Officers (CMO), Vice Presidents of Medical Affairs, Medical Directors, and other positions that were responsible for physician leaders—across four weeks, as well as personal interviews with a small set of CMOs. All research was blind, with the study dividing unnamed participants by United States region. From independent research, PRC selected 20 topics to discuss in the OKIS and interviews, asking participants to identify how important of a challenge each topic is to them and to elaborate on the topics they considered a major challenge.
Through this study, PRC uncovered valuable insight into the intricacies of leading a physician practice environment going into the new decade. Themes discussed include:
- Leadership Development
- Recruitment and Retention
- Patient Experience
- Cost Management
- Organizational Culture
